CIDER BARN RESTORATION & CONVERSION
Somerset
This project involved the comprehensive conversion of a traditional cider barn into a high-quality accommodation and living space, carefully blending character features with modern construction techniques.
The works began with significant structural upgrades, including underpinning to stabilise the existing foundations and ensure long-term integrity. The building was fully re-roofed and fitted with modern waterproofing systems, creating a durable and weather-resistant envelope. Structural steelwork was sensitively introduced to support revised layouts and new openings, while new structural floor finishes were installed throughout in line with current standards.
Externally, the existing fabric was carefully enhanced. Openings were amended to accommodate bespoke handcrafted oak windows and doors, locally made to complement the building’s character The external stonework was raked out and repointed using traditional lime mortar, preserving the building’s heritage and allowing it to breathe naturally.
A stunning handcrafted oak staircase forms a central feature within the interior, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and
creating a striking focal point.

The completed scheme successfully delivers a unique and characterful home, combining traditional materials and craftsmanship with high-performance building systems and contemporary design.
